Waverly

This zine is a beautiful, nostalgic chronicle of an entire era of life captured in nothing put photographs. It's like sitting down with your grandmother (the one you actually like) and watching her hands shakily flip through the family album. It is a preserved piece of heart that was put into the home and neighborhood. It is a fitting tribute to a childhood home from which a family was suddenly uprooted. This zine is for everyone who can never return to a place they loved.

From the author:
Waverly is a project I have been working on for some time now.
My family and I lived on a property in a town called Waverly in the state of Pennsylvania for almost 12 years and it was some of the best times of our lives. One day, out of the blue, we got a call from a realtor asking us when would a good time be for him to show the house. My mom, obviously very confused, asked what he was talking about. It was at that moment we realized that our landlord had listed our house without telling us or giving us any warning. We were told we had a few months to move out. Obviously, we were devastated and it deeply traumatized my mom because this was her dream house. It was next door to my aunts house (her sister) and we are very close with her.
Our property and hers were shared and it was our own oasis. The trees were hundreds of years old. We were surrounded by corn fields and across the street there was an old barn and a pond and beyond that was all forest. A local State Park was about a 15 minute drive from us. We had pear trees and apple trees. The yard was sort of a safe-haven for deer as well since we didn’t allow hunting in the property. Down the road there was the town of Waverly and it was a postcard of small town America. Just a deli, post office, general store, and a community center. It was perfect.
We then made an offer to buy the house and the offer was just under the asking price and it was turned down.
The house sat vacant for about a year and it was recently torn down by the owner.
This zine is a tribute to the best years of my life and the quiet moments I photographed along the way. These photographs were taken on the property and in the surrounding area.
